35 years ago my cousin Mike told me he'd never caught a native rainbow trout over 20 inches. I told him I knew a spot on Little River we could get to on our bikes where we could fix that. A couple of hours later, we were pedaling home with Mike's 24" catch. I got a feeling of excitement that day that is still with me today. I love to help people catch fish. I was born in Vero Beach, Florida, moved to the Redwoods of N. California for my school years where we fished Steelhead, Salmon and Trout. I began fishing Sarasota Bay in 1985; earned my captain's license in 1999 and began guiding from the south end of Tampa Bay to Charlotte Harbor. I enjoy being known as a "teaching captain" and helping newcomers to the sport add to their knowledge of local waters, tactics, tides and lunar tables. So, if you would like to learn more about fishing western Florida, call Captain Tony "Bay Dawg" Westheimer. Call 941-724-2616 to schedule your fishing charter.

Once on board our new BX 22 Sea Hunt bay boat, you will see we provide all your fishing needs starting with all licenses, ice, bait and tackle. You will enjoy a smooth, dry and quiet ride to some of my favorite spots with power provided by one of Yamaha's new four strokes. You will be fishing with top quality Shimano and Penn spinning reels coupled with rods by Fenwick and Airrus. All you need to bring is your favorite fishing snacks and drinks. I do recommend sun screen and sun glasses, preferably polarized, to help in sight fishing situations.

Well that all depends on which way the winds blowin'. Sounds funny, but here on the other west coast, what we are catching depends a lot on season, water temperature & moon phase and these conditions may have us searching for fish anywhere from inshore creeks to near shore reefs and along the beaches. In general, I target snook, redfish, sea trout, mackerel, flounder, sheephead and snapper. There are a few people who like chasin' tarpon & cobia with me. We enjoy a wonderfully diverse near shore and in shore fishery and I pledge to help preserve and protect it.
